Is Texas Motor Speedway closing? ›

The land that Texas Motor Speedway sits on may now be worth a small fortune, but the does not mean the future of the facility is in peril. The track has hosted both NASCAR and IndyCar events annually since its inaugural season of racing in 1997. The track is owned by the city of Fort Worth's sports authority and is leased out by Speedway Motorsports, Inc. (SMI) for racing, with Mark Faber currently serving as the track's general manager.

In the case of Texas Motor Speedway, located on Interstate 35 in the outskirts of the City of Fort Worth, it implies the mobilization and accommodation of 200,000 fans. The cost of building a track that can hold at least 100,000 fans is over $100 million.

As they say, everything is bigger in Texas. With a seating capacity of over 150,000 in a 3,500 foot grandstand, Texas Motor Speedway is the second-largest sports facility in the United States and the third-largest in the world.

The site is being converted to an industrial park by new, Belgium-based owner Katoen Natie. Natie officially received the property last April and plans to use the space to expand their warehouse complex west of the raceway park's land. Demolition of Houston Raceway Park began this April.
